On the left side of the dark wood butt there is a 3" x  2" engraved silver oval plaque that reads:

His markings were so well known that they were later adopted as the official proof marks of Birmingham in 1813

indicating that it is an AIRCRAFT RECOGNITION MODEL for a ZEKE 52 JAPANESE FIGHTER

This is a wonderful slice of life for a Seabee stationed on the Marshal islands and Hawaii during the the Summer of 1945

from Chad through Darfur and across to the Red Sea province

This a very nice example of a WWII Iron Cross First Class 1939, with a Magnetic core, flat design, and straight pin attachment. The style of the border and pin is typical of unmarked examples made by Fritz Zimmerman of Stuttgart. The pin on the back has a very gentle contour, another trademark of Zimmermann. The medal is in very fine condition. The silver plate is retained quite well, with lots of dark patination,
