Not only was Private Souder a veteran of the famed battle of Gettysburg, he was also present for the Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse. William Souder entered service as a Private in Company M of the 1st Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry on August 5, 1861. The 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry (15th Reserves 44th
