Even in Georgian and Victorian times I can not imagine Bandsmen actually being required to enter combat with the enemy. However they were, at that time required to carry a sword, albeit a small one. Here is a typical VICTORIAN era Drummer's sword with brass hilt and crossguard with a molded "V. R." right in the cross guard on both sides. It has a double edged blade measuring 19", the overall length being 25". Found in a barn
